The American Swedish Institute

The American Swedish Institute Weddings

ASI Wedding Aesthetic: Timeless, historic, fairytale garden party wedding.

This is my favorite venue in Minneapolis to shoot at! The Turnblad Mansion offers rooms with historic details, big windows, soft whites walls that are a photographers dream. The Turnblad Mansion at American Swedish Institute is surrounded by a a courtyard fit for a fairytale. The delicate details that can be found on the moldings in the Piano Room (inside the Turnblad Mansion) create a stunning setting for timeless fine art film photography. Migrating outdoors on a warm summer evening, couples are met with beauty as the light wraps around the mansions avant-garde architecture and perfectly curated gardens as if they are being enveloped in a warm hug. A setting that is perfectly designed for atmospheric, romantic photos.

The American Swedish Institute Wedding Venue Information

Location: 2600 Park Ave, Minneapolis, MN 55407

Parking: ASI offers complimentary parking for up to 130 cars on their onsite parking lot at The American Swedish Institute. Their security team is wonderful and if wanted, will escort guests and vendors to their vehicles.

Catering: Required to use on sate caterer, Slate & Stone. Slate & Stone offers incredibly delicious food options, I have always been impressed by their food and service! Slate & Stone has a full liquor license.

Capacity: ASI has capacity that ranges from 250-500 guests depending on where you would like your ceremony and reception hosted in the venue. Their courtyard offers a larger capacity than Institute’s indoor options.

My notes on ASI venue highlights:

  1. Historical and luxe, truly an elevated backdrop for a wedding.

  2. Guests absolutely love the opportunity to meander and explore the mansion museum during cocktail hour - it creates a special experience for everyone in attendance that won’t be forgotten.

  3. Their is so much beauty onsite that there isn’t a need to travel to a new location for photos.

  4. The typical ceremony space is in front of the entrance to the mansion - The Veranda.I recommend considering the courtyard as your ceremony space so that you can remain on the same level as your guests for a more intimate, garden party feeling.

Things to consider when

planning your wedding at ASI:

  1. While ASI does offer getting ready spaces for couples onsite - the rooms have the aesthetic of a classroom and aren’t filled with the character and natural light that you get from the rest of the beautiful venue. I recommend choosing an off site getting ready location if you can and highlighted a few beautiful options below.

  2. Plan your timeline carefully with your photographer and planner - because ASI is a museum, they have requirements for when photos within the mansion can be taken. They are generous with these requirements, however it’s important to be aware and communicate them with your photographer to ensure you have time to take beautiful photos within the ASI mansion!

  3. The indoor reception hall (Larson Hall) has a very modern feel in comparison to the Turnblad mansion. If you would like to keep the historical European feel throughout your wedding day, consider hosting your reception in the courtyard or even on the main level of the FIKA Cafe which offers a more cozy, light filled spaced, if you are getting married in the Autumn or Winter months.

I’m so happy you’re here!

Hello!

I’m Reyna, the heart and soul behind Sea Circus Weddings. With over 12 years of experience as a wedding photographer, I’m based in Minneapolis but have had the joy of capturing love stories across the country. My journey also led me to capture beautiful moments in Bali, ranch weddings in Carmel-by-the-Sea California, engagement shoots in New York Sea and on the shores of New Buffalo Michigan! I am always ready for an adventure to capture a beautiful love story.

My passion for photography blossomed from witnessing the profound love my grandparents share. At 86 and 84, their enduring bond is beautifully preserved in their wedding photos, which have become cherished heirlooms in our family. The timeless color tones and raw, natural emotions in their images inspire me to create heirloom, film-inspired photography for the couples I work with. I love capturing celebration, people on their happiest days, the intricacies of deep love, and beautiful flowers!

I live in a charming Tudor house in Minneapolis with my husband, our two little girls, and our cuddly cat, Goose—named after Gooseberry Falls, where we tied the knot in 2019! In my free time, you’ll often find us enjoying dance parties, embarking on camping adventures, or cuddling up with a good book (currently, I'm captivated by The Secret History by Donna Tart!).
