The Case for Bridal & Boudoir Portraits | Ethereal Bridal Portraits in St. Paul MN
I am a big believer in the notion that Photography is a gift to oneself - it captures a moment in time that you can look back on and remember forever. I particularly love shooting bridal sessions and bridal boudoir sessions a few months before ones wedding for this very reason. In this season of change, how wonderful it is to capture exactly who you are in this moment - portraits that represent your hope, dreams, where you are in life right now. It’s such a gift to yourself, and your spouse to be!
The beautiful session below is a bridal session of Casey - I wanted to capture her ethereal grace in an undone, organic way. Her dress is simple - an organic Reformation dress, and her makeup was natural. Everything was tied together by this beautiful bouquet created by Wild Thistle Design.
Difference between a Bridal Session and a Boudoir Session
A bridal session is a shoot before your wedding day where you dress up in your wedding day attire, and practice your wedding day hair and makeup. We will capture beautiful fine art portraits of you as a bride, and I will help build your confidence being photographed. This is also a great session to have if you have a tight timeline that won’t allow much time for bridal portraits the day of your wedding!
A boudoir or Intimate session is different to many different photographers. For me, it is all about capturing you in a beautiful, romantic, organic way. We can go any direction you would like with this - dainty lingerie, cuddly robes, or nothing at all. I will work with you before your shoot to create a look that fits your vision so we can capture those jaw-dropping portraits that will make you embrace how beautiful you are.
5 Reasons to have an Intimate Boudoir Session
It gives you a chance to be comfortable in front of the camera and practice before your wedding day. It always feels a little funny at first when photos are being taken of you. It’s absolutely amazing to me as a photographer, watching my clients grow in confidence as a shoot progresses and our relationship develops. The laughter comes more candidly, the eyes sparkle a little bit more, and with each shot, photos get better and better.
When I am shooting a couple on their wedding day, I am working to capture the beauty of their souls. I want to create photos that will show off the features that you are most confident about - and create art that is true to your personality. Having this shoot time before your wedding day sets me up to create photos that are romantic and portray who you really are.
It feels good! There is something so wonderful about seeing how beautiful you are through someone else’s perspective. I truly see all my clients as a solid 10, and I will do everything in my power to show you through your photos how true this is! You are so beautiful, and I want to show you, so you can feel it too.
Wedding day Hair + Makeup. This is a perfect opportunity to do a test run of your wedding day hair and makeup. It’s nerve wracking to leave it up to chance the day of your wedding, and it’s a shame to do a trial run without getting to really show it off!
Wedding day gift to Fiancé. Let’s create a little keepsake album, and when it comes time to exchange wedding day gifts, there is truly no doubt that your fiancé will adore his! My husband surprised me with a little kitty on our wedding morning, and I surprised him with a beautiful little pale pink velvet book filled with photos from my boudoir session! Ok - just look at his face when he opened up the book:

Florals. Ok, so I knew in the beginning that I would be booking Ashley Fox Designs for our wedding day florals, but what I took a solid 6 months to figure out - was what type of flowers, size of bouquet, and colors, that I wanted her to make magic with. All of my boudoir sessions include a custom bouquet, which presents in itself an amazing opportunity for you to figure out what suits you best for your wedding day.
